Yacht Charter in the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most famous coastlines, not just in the Mediterranean but worldwide; listed as UNESCO heritage site in 1997 it's not hard to see why it's so widely recognised.

For those sailors amongst you who like to add a touch of Italian glamour to your sailing holiday, with a feast of Italian food and sights; then the Amalfi Coast and the Partnopean Islands are an appealing destination; not forgetting the islands of Capri, Ishcia and Procida.

A sailing ground famed for its glamorous coastline, be one of the 'it' crowd and spend a week indulging your Italian fantasy.

Where can we sail from?

There are two bases to choose from for sailing the Amalfi Coast, both of which are in great locations to explore the Amalfi Coast.

Salerno (50 minutes from Naples airport) – We use two bases here, one is in the main port and the other is at purpose built marina; both bases are in a good position to begin from.

Procida (25 minute drive from Naples airport and 55 minute ferry journey) – This is a really colourful island from which to begin your sailing holiday from.

So, tell me what's the weather and wind like?

In the summer months the wind is generally from the South, swinging round to a South West or South Easterly with the wind strength picking up in the afternoon. In the mornings it's a wonderfully light force 2, picking up to a force 4 in the afternoon.

As with most Mediterranean destinations the warmest time of year to visit is during July and August with temperatures at their highest, then in the shoulder months of May and October it hovers around the 20's.

Are there any hidden surprises?

In Italy the mooring fees vary according to yacht length and also when in the season you are sailing. As a general rule high season runs from June to August, sometimes until mid-September – each marina has a different season.

The costs of mooring fees for a 39ft yacht range from €30 to upwards of €100 per night, with prices sometimes rising to double the cost when staying over a weekend. When sailing in Italy there are anchorages available, some of the better anchorages have mooring buoys which you do have to pay for, but are less expensive than a marina.

The cost of taxis and private transfers in Italy can be expensive, so where possible our top tip would be to reach your destination by train.
