- One Week Sailing the Saronic Islands from Lavrion
If you are looking for an easy island hopping holiday combined with great wind then this is the route for you! Our bases in the Saronic Islands (Athens and Lavrion) allow you to reach much of southern mainland Greece and all the islands surrounding it. You will come across traditional Greek towns as well as buzzing islands filled with restaurants, bars and their own uniquely Greek character!
The prevailing wind in the Saronic islands is North Easterly Force 3-4. During July and August the meltimi makes its presence known with wind strength sometimes picking up to a Force 5-6. As the area is fairly far south it enjoys really warm summer temperatures, reaching up to 35°C in peak season, and remaining between 20-25°C in May & October.
You will find that you will often not need to pay mooring fees when staying on town quays in Greece. If the local port authorities do come by, then you can expect to pay no more than €10, for a 38ft yacht.
Once you have arrived in Lavrion and done your check in it is time to relax on board or in the local town with a nice cold drink in hand.
On your first day why not head west about 30 miles to Aegina Island. There are lots of archaeological sites to visit on the island, including the Ancient temple of Athena Aphaia and the ghost village of Paleochora. The island is also famous for its large production of pistachios. The main town on the island is lovely and you can enjoy a nice stroll along the port promenade and the narrow streets. This is a great place to stop for an evening or even just to anchor off for a spot of lunch and swim by the beach.
The next few days can be spent exploring the exciting Saronic Islands. There is a great mix here between very busy touristy islands and traditional Greek untouched islands.
Vathi is a beautiful small fishing harbour on the west coast of the Methana peninsula. It is a very peaceful hamlet set in spectacular surroundings at the bottom of a volcano - which for the energetic types can be climbed!
Dhokos is a beautiful island west of Hydra. The large bay on Dhokos is a very popular lunch stop and place to spend the night in good weather. There are several nice anchorages within the bay. There is also a small cove on the west entrance to the bay, with beautiful pristine waters.
A long 30 mile sail back to Lavrion will be needed from the southern islands, giving you a great last day of exciting sailing.
Make sure you head back with plenty of time on the day before check in. You can then enjoy your last night in Lavrion, exploring the local town and traditional Greek restaurants.

Our Shore to Sail holidays are a combination of a one or two week flotilla sailing holiday with another relaxing week or two ashore.
These holidays will appeal to those who enjoy sailing but have family or friends who are not quite so enthusiastic about sailing - a compromise can now be made!
Most people opt for a week of sailing followed by a week of winding down on shore. However it is entirely up to you to do what you want to do (and when!)
Choose from studios or apartments beside the sea at the Iris Hotel, Stena, near Nidri. Or, really pamper yourself at the Salvator Villas and Spa Hotel in Parga, which also has a selection of two-bedroom villas with private pools.
We also have a brand new, exclusive villa available which is nestled in the olive groves on the hill above Sivota Bay on Lefkas Island.
We have no doubt at all that our flotilla sailing gang will really score a few points with the non sailors of the family by bringing them here! The combination of one of our yachts and a room here is about as good as it gets!
For 20 years, our flotillas have been enjoying the wonderful food from the 'Castello Restaurant' in Parga. Spiros and his six sons have now expanded their programme in Parga with a fabulous boutique complex of rooms, apartments and villas called the Salva…
The Iris Hotel is one of our accommodation options in the South Ionian, ideally suited for a shore based week before or after one of our Lefkas or Ithaka flotillas, or one of our two week flotillas which finishes in the South Ionian.
