One Week Ithaka Flotilla

One Week Ithaka Flotilla Route Map

Sail around incredible Ithaka

This is a fantastic flotilla for those looking to sail the South Ionian with gentle breezes and fabulous bays to stop at for lunchtime swims. It is also brilliant for those who have done a flotilla in the North Ionian Islands and fancy exploring somewhere new!

Where will we visit?

This route starts and finishes in Sivota and spends the majority of the week exploring the delightful island of Ithaka as well as the smaller islands of Kastos and Kalamos. Ithaka is famed as the home of Odysseus. It is also host to three fantastic ports and a number of beautiful anchorages.

What is the weather like?

Generally you'll find sunshine and light winds with the best sailing conditions in the afternoon. There is the chance to venture into windier areas if you are looking for a bit more sailing but you can also spend your days bay hopping around the secluded coastline.

Typical Itinerary & Highlights

Days 1 - 2, Joining the flotilla in Sivota

After arriving at Preveza a short transfer through the hills of Lefkas Island will bring you to our southern base at Sivota. Here you will be met by our crew who will introduce you to your boat and show you around. Then it is time to sit back and relax with a cold drink and sample some of the best food the Ionian Islands has to offer in one of the many quayside tavernas.

A likely first day stop is Frikes, a picturesque village, nestled between the mountains on the north east of Ithaka Island. Beyond its unique setting and crystal clear water, the fantastic array of tavernas and cosy bar offer a brilliant evening’s entertainment.

Days 3 - 4, Exploring Ithaka Island

A short sail from Frikes around to Poli Bay on the North West side of Ithaka is the perfect way to get off the beaten track. Enjoy a laid back party on the beach with your fellow flotilla sailors or simply cook on board and enjoy a night under the stars. You’ll feel a million miles away from the stresses and strains of everyday life.

Sailing further down the West Coast of Ithaka is an opportunity for some brilliant sailing! After a hard days sail a swim stop at stunning Pere Pigadhi is in order. This spot hosts a small island, surrounded by the spectacular mountains of southern Ithaka. Enjoy the gin clear water before the short sail to Big Vathi in the evening.

The port affectionately known as ‘Big Vathi’ is the largest port on Ithaka Island. A wander around the back streets of this town will take you back in time. A visit to the village square will envelop you into the leisurely world of cafes and tavernas. Simply sit back, relax and unwind!

Just a short sail from Big Vathi is terrifically traditional Kioni. It’s brightly coloured buildings, fishing boats and gorgeously Greek atmosphere make this one of the most popular spots in the South Ionian Islands. Enjoy dinner on the quayside with water lapping just feet away.

Days 5 - 6, Escaping to Kastos & Kalamos

The next few days will really get you off the tourist trail. From Kioni sail across the Ionian sea to the remote islands of Kastos and Kalamos. A swim stop on Atoko Island in either Cliff Bay or One House Bay is a fantastic idea to cool off en route. In Kastos enjoy the panoramic views of the Greek Mainland from the Windmill Bar and Café. The mountainous island of Kalamos has a small port and beautiful beach from which you can swim. If you fancy exploring further afield the abandoned Port Leone is a great bay for a swim.

Our Shore to Sail holidays are a combination of a one or two week flotilla sailing holiday with another relaxing week or two ashore.

These holidays will appeal to those who enjoy sailing but have family or friends who are not quite so enthusiastic about sailing - a compromise can now be made!

Most people opt for a week of sailing followed by a week of winding down on shore. However it is entirely up to you to do what you want to do (and when!)

Iris Hotel and Apartments

The Iris Hotel has been a popular choice for flotilla sailors for many years. This accommodation option will fit in with any of our flotillas starting and finishing on Lefkas Island.
