Early & Late Summer One Week Placement Flotillas

2019 1 Week Delivery Flotillas

Enjoy quiet bays...

Explore the Ionian Islands without the crowds. Enjoy tranquil harbours and deserted bays during our early and late season placement flotillas. This route is one of our shorter placement flotillas that travel from Corfu down to Lefkas or Kefalonia at the end of April and do the return trip in October.

Why join a placement flotilla?

These are some of the most popular flotillas of the year! They only happen once a year (in each direction) and because they are at the end of April and October they are very affordable. This time of year also means the weather is less predictable than peak season, meaning good wind is more common. Fantastic for keen sailors!

Why do we do placement flotillas?

During the winter, most of our yachts are wintered in Gouvia Marina, Corfu, where they receive comprehensive maintenance and cosmetic attention. At the end of April all the yachts are sailed to their summer bases and these trips are known as ‘delivery’, or ‘shakedown’ cruises.  These trips certainly show up anything that isn’t shipshape.

Typical Itinerary & Highlights

We currently have 3 itineraries available.   Select Itinerary:

Days 1 - 2, Join the flotilla in Plataria

Following a short transfer from Preveza airport you will arrive in the picturesque fishing village of Plataria. Here you will meet your lead crew and home from home for the week (your yacht). After a short boat briefing it is time to retire to Olga's Taverna for a drink and a bite to eat.

On Monday morning there will be a thorough boat briefing and a chat about where you are heading that day. There are an array of small supermarkets and bakeries to explore where you can stock up on provisions for a lazy lunch at anchor...

  • Sunset in Plataria Panorama Plataria

Days 2 - 3, Sayaidha & the Albanian coast

Sayaidha is a small fishing village on the greek mainland, close to the Albanian border. The village is best known among sailors for it sunsets and the prawns at Alex's taverna - served by the kilo and not to be missed!

  • Sunset Punch Party Sayadha Sayaidha

Days 2 - 3, Visiting Paxos Island

From Plataria you may wend your way south to the delightful village of Lakka on Paxos Island (weather permitting). The crystal clear emerald water of Lakka Bay is not to be missed for a lunch stop within a stones throw of Lakka Village - a favourite evening destination. Gaios is a traditional Greek town, with a number of tavernas to explore. A highlight of this trip is a stop in Emerald Bay on Anti-Paxos Island for a lazy lunch and swim stop.

  • Beneteau 40 Relaxing in Emerald Bay 2 Emerald Bay

Days 4 - 5, The fishing villages of northern Corfu

During this week there may be an opportunity to visit the small villages of StStephanos and Kassiopi on the northern side of Corfu. These picturesque harbours are the perfect way to get away from it all and idyllic Greek atmospheres. These places are particularly special at the start and end of the season when the flotillas are the only boats around!

Days 6 - 7, Exploring Northern Corfu

During this week there may be an opportunity to visit the small villages of St Stephanos and Kassiopi on the northern side of Corfu. These picturesque harbours are the perfect way to get away from it all and idyllic Greek atmospheres. These places are particularly special at the start and end of the season when the flotillas are the only boats around!

Another possible stop is Corfu Town where you can spend an evening exploring the traditional tavernas in the backstreets, along with the brilliant shops.

  • Corfu Town Harbour Corfu Island

Days 7 - 8, Finish in Gouvia

  • Gouvia Marina, Corfu Gouvia Marina

Day 1, Joining the flotilla in Gouvia

Travelling from North to South you begin at Gouvia Marina on Corfu Island. Here you will be met by our crew who will show you to your boat. After a quick look round it is time to sit down and relax at one of the many tavernas on offer, with a cold beer and bite to eat.

Days 2 - 5, North Ionian highlights

Depending on the weather you may head further up north and explore the fishing villages on the mainland as well as Corfu town.

The next few days are spent exploring the delightful villages of Lakka and Giaos on Paxos Island. A highlight of the trip is a lunchtime stop (or two) in Emerald Bay on Anti-Paxos Island.

A mainland stop in the Greek Town of Parga should not be missed, with its long sandy beach, buzzing promenade and the unbeatable choice of evening entertainment.

From here you will wend your way south, perhaps via the harbour of Ligia, or a night at anchor on Two Rock Bay, to the Lefkas Canal.

The route will vary depending on the weather but will almost certainly visit one or two of the small fishing villages at the top of Meganisi Island.

Another popular stop is our pontoon at Stena, near Nidri, where you will meet Christos and Evanthia at the Iris Hotel. This is a great spot for enjoying a cold beer or two by the hotel pool before wandering into Nidri town for dinner.

Then it is time to sit back, relax with a cold drink and sample some of the best food the Ionian Islands has to offer, in one of the many quayside tavernas.

The lead crew often organise a group meal so that you can enjoy the company of your fellow sailors for one final evening before heading home the following day.

Days 2 - 3, Southern Ionian highlights

In the South Ionian you will visit a few of our old favourites as well as quieter spots (which we love as they remind us of what flotillas used to be like 30 years ago)!

Your first day will be an appropriately short introduction to your island hopping adventure.  This is normally only eight to ten miles, around to a sheltered bay or village harbour on Meganisi Island. You travel a little further North up to the East coast of Lefkas depending on the weather forecast for the week.

Day 4, Through the Lefkas Canal

Before going through the Lefkas Bridge, Lefkas town awaits with its marvellous Greek atmosphere. An evening cappuccino in the square is the perfect way to wind down after a long day. An alternative option to the town quay is an optional stay in Lefkas marina with impressive showers and a pool in which you can cool off (worth it if you don’t mind forking out – this is the only marina on the trip).

Instead of this stop you may head straight through the bridge to Vonitsa or Ligia on the Greek mainland.

  • Ligia North Ligia
  • Lefkas Town Bridge by Alex Allan Lefkas Town

Days 5 - 7, North Ionian highlights

Our Shore to Sail holidays are a combination of a one or two week flotilla sailing holiday with another relaxing week or two ashore.

These holidays will appeal to those who enjoy sailing but have family or friends who are not quite so enthusiastic about sailing - a compromise can now be made!

Most people opt for a week of sailing followed by a week of winding down on shore. However it is entirely up to you to do what you want to do (and when!)

Iris Hotel and Apartments

The Iris Hotel has been a popular choice for flotilla sailors for many years. This accommodation option will fit in with any of our flotillas starting and finishing on Lefkas Island. The hotel itself is a small family run hotel located close to Nidri Town. It has a combination of studio rooms for two or three people and apartments that can sleep up to 4.

Salvator Spa Hotel & Villas

The Salvator Spa Hotel is perched in the hills above Parga town and is a slightly more luxurious offering. The rooms on offer range from the Deluxe Room for two people, up to the Superior 2 Room Villa for up to 6 people. The hotel itself has an excellent restaurant, pool and spa facilities and all villas come with their own private pool.

Villa MeandrosDJI 0202 copy

Our brand new villa in Sivota on Lefkas is exclusive to Sailing Holidays Ltd. Built with families and groups in mind, the 3 double bedrooms all feature en-suite bathrooms. Built into the hill the ground floor level comprises of the master bedroom, a large kitchen and living space. On the same level you will find a huge outdoor seating area and a private pool.
