This is our sixth year of running the popular one week flotilla around the Saronic Gulf. This route is only available for May half term and the first week of June and so tends to sell out quickly! The wind here is a little stronger than the Ionian Islands, but it remains steady, making for some exhilarating sailing. We enjoy the unspoilt nature of the area and the access to some amazing ancient ruins. Those of you who have sailed on our yachts before will feel instantly at home.
When we sail in this area, we always wish we had another week (or two), as there are so many places to explore! We are often amazed to find some harbours uncrowded. There is seldom a rush to get in and the welcome in each place gives you a taste of true Greek hospitality. The taverna atmosphere remains familiar with the addition of a few new dishes. The local wine is delightful and the ambience is addictive. Dining out is more than a meal - it is a cultural experience that will envelop you.
The winds in the Saronic Islands are generally from the south east. It offers great sailing without any significant swell, however it can be stronger than some are used to, so a previous flotilla or other sailing experience is a good idea before tackling this cruise. Having said that, the area is idyllic.
From Athens our transfer will take to over the mighty Corinth Canal to your starting point at Epidavros. The lead crew will be there to meet you, and after a very quick boat brief, it will be time for a cold drink and a bite to eat at the nearest taverna.
The first few days will be spent acclimatising and exploring the Saronic Gulf. Small village harbours such as Vathi offer wonderfully quiet evenings and an instant escape from daily life at home. In contrast the buzzing town of Poros offers a truely Greek atmosphere among the quayside and backstreet tavernas that cannot be beaten. Sunset at Poros over the 'sleeping lady' is a site not to be missed.
The final day is often spent at the port to the North of Palaia Epidavros at Nea Epidavros. This ensures a relaxing final day...
On the last day of the holiday the flotilla will return to Epidavros. The bays north and south of Epidavros are great for a final swim stop before heading back into harbour.
Your lead crew will organise a final night dinner so you have the opportunity to spend a final evening with your fellow sailors!
The yachts below are an example of what is available on this flotilla. Please give us a call to check live availability.
