- Corfu Sheltered Waters Flotilla
The Corfu sheltered waters flotilla visits some of the most picturesque harbours in the North Ionian. This flotilla sailing area is heavily sheltered by Corfu Island with regular afternoon breezes. We spend our evenings in wonderfully ethnic Greek village harbours and bays where you can swim and simply relax.
The warm sun and rich culture make Corfu an idyllic place to start sailing or to introduce family and friends to our favourite pastime. The regular afternoon breezes make this an ideal first flotilla for couples, young families or those making the step from dinghies to yachts. We challenge you not to enjoy it!
Gouvia Marina on Corfu Island is your flotilla starting point - with plenty of choices of restaurants, shops and facilities it is a perfect place to begin your holiday! Days are spent sailing from harbour to harbour, stopping for lunch and swims, in stunning bays along the way. Evenings are spent in wonderfully ethnic Greek village harbours and bays where you can kick back and relax. The highlight of the Corfu sheltered water flotilla cruise is, of course, the island of Corfu with many beautiful harbours including Corfu Town, Kassiopi and St Stephanos to name a few.
Following a short transfer from Corfu airport you will arrive in Gouvia Marina. Here you will meet your lead crew and home from home for the week (your yacht). After a short boat brief you have a range of restaurants to choose from in the Marina for a bite to eat!
On Monday morning there will be a thorough boat brief and a chat about where you are heading that day. There is a supermarket in the Marina for you to stock up on provisions before you head out for a lazy lunch at anchor...
A likely first evening stop is a little fishing village called St Stephanos. It has become a very popular 'up market' resort in the peak summer months. There is a thriving local Greek community that welcomes its visitors with the warmth and hospitality Greece is famous for. The village is extremely pretty and is situated within the shelter of hills that sweep down on either side, making it a very safe harbour. Evenings here are spent in one of the several Tavernas looking across the water to Albania. The local restaurants take waterside dining to a new level.
Another fantastic stop is the village of Kassiopi is on the northern coast of Corfu. This spot hasn’t changed much in thirty years. There are excellent tavernas, bars, restaurants and shops as well as a secret beach in a bay a short walk around the coast.
There are a number of inlets and bays to enjoy dropping the hook en route for lunch, not forgetting and a token post lunch swim to kick off your holiday in true sailing holidays style!
Sayaidha is a small fishing village on the greek mainland, close to the Albanian border. The village is best known among sailors for it sunsets and the prawns at Alex's taverna - served by the kilo and not to be missed!
Another popular stop on the Mainland is a place called Iggy Creek! This is a special flotilla stop that is very popular for families in the summer months, the owners run watersports in the afternoon and in the evenings put on an excellent BBQ for all to enjoy.
The first or penultimate night stop is likely to be Corfu Town where you can moor in the yacht club beneath the citadel and spend an evening wandering the rustic backstreets of the town.
On Saturday, you will return to Gouvia where the crew will host a final night meal at one of the tavernas in the Marina. Simply spend your final night relaxing and regaling tales of the week’s events with your fellow sailors over delicious Greek food and wine.
Below is an indication of the yachts that will sail on this flotilla. Please call us on 020 8459 8787 to check live availability.
Our Shore to Sail holidays are a combination of a one or two week flotilla sailing holiday with another relaxing week or two ashore.
These holidays will appeal to those who enjoy sailing but have family or friends who are not quite so enthusiastic about sailing - a compromise can now be made!
Most people opt for a week of sailing followed by a week of winding down on shore. However it is entirely up to you to do what you want to do (and when!)
