After two experimental fortnights in 2018 we decided to, once again, include this route as part of our regular programme. Happily, the islands remain idyllic and a great escape from the more well known areas of the Ionian Islands.
Since our last visit, a new harbour has been built in Ericousa, the harbour at Othoni has been updated and the harbour at Mathraki has been dredged out. These improvements have made this sailing area less challenging than it used to be, so families and couples wishing to enjoy the Greece we used to know will love this “mystery tour” and the great sailing of the Faraway’s.
The emerald waters of the Corfu archipelago are in evidence everywhere. A 30 mile run down the spectacular west coast of Corfu before the prevailing North West “meltemi” wind is often the best sail of the fortnight. This flotilla does not have a fixed itinerary and will go with the weather forecast in terms of direction sailed each day.
When we featured this route in our 2019 brochure, some dates filled immediately and, apart from the odd boat or two, only July and the first fortnight of August remain with some availability. For those of you seeking something different and very special, welcome to the Faraway’s.
So, we are back! Our drone man, Dave, covered our first flotilla of 2019 and quickly threw together a “taster” of some of the places we visited. The flotilla also spent time in Paxos and several mainland village harbours.
