RYA Competent Crew and Theory Course

This sailing course is designed for novices and total beginners alike. You will learn how to steer the boat, under sail and engine, how to hoist and drop the sails, how to set them correctly, mooring procedures, rope work, how to recover a man overboard, how to use a dinghy, and lots more.

The RYA Competent Crew course is designed to provide the skills you need to start off in yachting. Being a valuable crew member is fulfilling and exciting. You are the backbone of any yacht and without you the boat is going nowhere.

Included in each course we provide access to our unique online training. This gives you the opportunity to learn some of the necessary theoretical and practical skills even before leaving the comfort of home. The course is RYA approved, and is designed for students who cannot afford the time to attend lengthy shore-based classes. You will also be sent RYA Competent Crew course material to read before you arrive in Greece.

Pre-Course Experience Requirements:

There is no minimum level of experience required to undertake the Competent Crew course. There is no minimum age requirement.

Accommodation:

All sailing courses are taught aboard our Dufour 36 yachts and unlike our flotilla holidays, you will be purchasing a berth, and will be sharing with fellow students. On the yachts there are 3 double cabins and a saloon berth. We have a range of requirements and can cater for two to five people per yacht. The maximum instructor to student ratio is 5:1, and due consideration will be taken when assigning bunks.

All breakfasts and lunches are included in the cost of the course, as well as two evening meals cooked on board. Greece is blessed with an abundance of tavernas, and there will be lots of opportunities to eat on-shore. If you have any special dietary requirements just let us know. One bath sized towel per person, all bed linen, pillows and duvets are included. There’s no need to bring a sleeping bag along. There is a shower on board, and we will be stopping in ports that have showers and facilities ashore.

What is Included:

RYA Competent Crew is £820 plus flights & transfer.

If couples or a group would like training all to themselves we can calculate tailor made price arrangements depending on the time of year.

If you’re looking to take the next step you can combine the Competent Crew course with the Day Skipper (non-tidal). This will involve you staying aboard the boat, and starting a new course the following week.
Combined Competent Crew & Day Skipper is £1500 plus flight & transfer fee. 14 days aboard the yacht.

Once you’ve completed your course, why not continue on to join one of our flotilla sailing holidays? Each course is scheduled to finish in time to join one of our flotillas, and the cost of your flight is included in the cost of the flotilla holiday. This means you would not have to pay an additional fee for flights and transfers!
