The stunning Faraway Islands are perfect for those of you who have enjoyed our other flotilla routes and are looking for something new. This is our fifth year operating in the Faraways. The sailing around this area is similar to the rest of the Ionian Islands except that there is a bit more open water. The three main islands are only 8 to ten miles apart. Some sailing experience such as a previous 'Whole Ionian' flotilla would be ideal preparation for taking on the Faraway Islands. This flotilla will consist of our Beneteau 331s and 361s, alongside our newer Beneteau 323s, and a Bavaria 44. With furling sail systems, the area is just perfect for those wanting some more wind in their sails. The new harbour at Othoni certainly gives us an excellent 'bolt hole' in the event of too much wind. The flotilla begins on the Greek mainland in the picturesque town of Plataria before heading up the East side of Corfu to the Diapondia Islands - which translates to the 'Faraway Islands'. The group consists of Othoni, Ericousa and Mathraki. The islands are covered with olive groves, particularly Othoni, which is clad with heavy bush in the valleys, giving way to rocky scrub on the hill tops that tower above the other islands. With abandoned towns up on the hills and crystal clear waters, the island of Othoni is possibly one of the most beautiful in the Ionian. All three islands boast beautiful sandy beaches, the most spectacular is found on Mathraki, with its golden sands and transparent water. Like Othoni, the water here is perfectly clear, making it a great spot for snorkelling. Enjoy spectacular sailing along the rugged and lush coastline of northwest Corfu to Paleokastrista, a bustling town full of fishing and tourist boats. Come and enjoy this stunning cruising area that will take you off the beaten track and back to Greece as it used to be!
