Due to popular request from those that can't free themselves up for a two week holiday in the Saronics, we will be running six one-week holidays in the Saronic Gulf on selected dates during May, June, July, August, and September of 2012. Our Saronic Island flotillas do a one week loop around the islands of the Saronic Gulf, so if you only have a week to spare, this one could be a nice option. A three hour flight to Athens followed by an hour and a half on a coach, allows you to have a brain transplant. Suddenly, the intensity of life in the UK vanishes and is replaced by the Greek Island taverna ambience. Thereafter, you can drift from Island village to Island village in good company and with unobtrusive guidance. You will board your yacht in Palaia Epidhavros and once everything is stowed and the evening mini brief is done, it is usually time to adjourn to the taverna. In the morning, the comprehensive briefings take place, the shopping is done, and by midday, it is time to set sail. The first day will usually be a ten or twelve mile 'losener' to Angistri or Aegina which are both steeped in history and remain classic Greek Islands. The following day is likely to be a bit longer and may go as far as the Island of Poros. This is a bigger Island, and a main ferry port for Athens, but it retains it's' villagy feel'. Wandering about the back streets takes you back in time! Your third day is likely to be a relatively short run back up to Methana, so named because of the Methane smell from the naturally heated salt water and mineral pools. Hopefully you will have time to luxuriate in the pools before a cooling drink in the evening. We move on again to any one of several possible village harbour overnight stops on the following day, and more experienced people might choose to enjoy a night at anchor somewhere. All flotillas are regulated to a degree by which way the wind is blowing, so the final two 'evenings out' may be spent in Korfos, Nea Epidavros, or Vathi, a small sheltered harbour in the bay South of the two Epidavros's. This is a brilliant 'taster' for the two week flotillas in this area and you will visit the Islands of Poros, Angistri, Aegina and other spots on the coast of the Peloponese in a single week.
