Our Sail Sardinia Bareboat Yacht Charters We are delighted to announce the launch of a new designated Bareboat Sailing Holidays site! Have a look and let us know what you think: Bareboat Sailing Holidays - CLICK HERE Although Sardinia’s coastline is an extraordinary sailing destination with hundreds of secluded coves, idyllic beaches and dramatic rock formations, surprisingly it remains off the radar for many British sailors. Sardinia’s attraction for many that venture that way is its coastline’s diversity; from the dunes of the Costa Verde to the deep emerald coves and dramatic cliffs of Cala Gonone, no stretch is the same as the next. A stand-out is the fantastic Costa Smeralda (“Emerald Coast”) with its magic beaches and a system of villages built according to a detailed urban plan. The area is a luxurious tourist destination, with highly affluent European and Arabian VIPs visiting from entertainment, politics and industry. The wind conditions around Porto Pollo in northern Sardinia are probably the most constant, which means that most sailors are to be found on the Costa Smeralda. The Emerald Coast is also an excellent base from which to explore the famous Maddalena islands on the way up to the French island of Corsica. The La Maddalena Islands have crystal clear waters, pink sand, a series of coves and rocks, blue cliffs rising from deep seabeds, intense colours: the Maddalena Islands are a must for whoever wants to discover the beauties of the Sardinian Sea. La Maddalena Island is surrounded by Budelli, Caprera, Razzoli, Santa Maria, Santo Stefano and Spargi. This group of small granitic rock islands has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Our bases in Sardinia - Portisco, Cannigione and Alghero - are all in the north and readily serve this pristine sailing area. Alghero has its own airport, with our other bases served by Olbia airport. All airports are readily accessible from the UK and a quick drive to the ports where your yacht awaits. Sardinia’s marinas are an excellent infrastructure circling the island with a 30 sea mile gap between each establishment. There are two winds here which promise great conditions for dynamic sailing; the Sahara wind Chirocco and the Maestrale, which blows down from the North. The Maestrale mostly blows along the west coast, a very powerful W to NW wind; while a S to SE wind prevails on the east coast.
Portisco Portisco is located in the beautiful "Costa Smeralda" (Emerald Coast), between Porto Cervo and Porto Rotondo, only 10 minutes from Olbia Airport. Marina di Portisco, which is a natural green cove, is ideal for sailing tourism and it offers a variety of services in a warm and hospitable environment. Departing from Portisco, you can sail to a large number of destinations as described above. The island's irregular coasts offer many amazing natural landings. In these uncontaminated places it is still possible to witness "la mattanza", the old-fashioned way of tuna fishing. Sailing Holidays acts as an agent for yacht owners based in Sardinia.
