RYA Courses in April 2018!
Fancy getting an RYA Certificate in the glorious April sunshine? We're opening up availability for the weeks commencing 15th and 22nd April for you to get qualified! You can fly into Corfu from as little as £50pp from London, Nottingham and Manchester which makes this offer even more enticing!
This is a unique opportunity to sail in the North Ionian for a week before the start of the flotilla season. We expect the weather to be a bit more variable giving you a range of conditions which is excellent for training!
Which course should I do?
RYA Competent Crew
If you are new to sailing and want to get the relevant skills to crew onboard a yacht, then the RYA Competent Crew course is a great place to start. This course will help you learn all of the basics of sailing and yachtsmanship. It is suitable for complete beginners who are looking to get a solid grounding of the basics.
You’ll live on one of our training yachts and spend a week cruising around the Ionian Islands. You will get to grips with boat handling, sail trimming, nautical terms, useful knots and steering a compass course.
The course package includes our online ‘Practical Primer Course’ this takes you through the language of sailing, knot-work and other theory elements. This is a short online course and it should only take around 4 hours. Hopefully after this you will arrive in Greece prepared for your week out on the water!
RYA Day Skipper
The RYA Day Skipper course is the perfect choice for those of you who have previous sailing experience and want to build on your core skills. You will be in charge of everything from passage planning to reading weather forecasts. The qualification is recognised by charter companies worldwide.
It is designed to develop leadership skills and confidence when in charge of a yacht. It will focus on crew management, yacht handling under power and sail, mooring and man overboard recovery. Navigation and pilotage skills will be worked on for you to plan and execute short passages.
Prior to your practical course you will complete our RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship course online which takes around 25 hours to complete. This covers charts, buoyage, navigation, pilotage, rules of the road and passage planning. The online course is tailored to provide the skills particular to the Day Skipper syllabus.
RYA VHF Certificate
If you’re thinking of booking an RYA Day Skipper or Competent Crew course for 2018 then we have a little added extra for you to think about. We will be offering the RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate. This course can be added to any of the RYA courses that we run.
When you are out enjoying the sunshine, completing the practical section of your course, you will complete the final part of the VHF Certificate. Your instructor will sit down with you and do your 1 hour assessment for the final section of the qualification.

Bespoke courses to suit you!
We have 3 training yachts that we run our courses on. They can accommodate you whether you are a solo traveller who would like to book a berth, or if you are a family or group of friends, wanting to book the whole boat.
Couples and individuals can book a berth on one of the training yachts; you will be sharing the yacht with other like-minded sailors doing their RYA course. If you are a couple, who would like to do two different courses, that is not a problem we always run a mixture of the two courses on all of our training yachts.
If you are a group wanting to book a whole boat with a private instructor that is something we can easily arrange. Again there can be a mixture of courses on the boat so you can design a tailor-made package to suit your needs!
