RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show - 4th - 5th March 2017
Our glorious London Office team were at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th March. The show is held in the beautiful Alexandra Palace. It was lovely seeing so many of you there. You may have recognised a couple of familiar faces. Bex, Liam, Amy and Charlie were there to bring the sunshine of the Greek Islands to north London.
Highlights of the show...
We may be a little bias, but we like to think that a visit to our stand may of been one of the main highlights of your visit! Once you’d sprinted through the show to our stand, you may have taken a stroll around the rest of the exhibition. It was a great day out for all the family. So whether young or old (or young at heart) we're sure you will of found plenty of stands to explore and activities that took your fancy.
The Land Rover Racing team made an appearance at the Dinghy Show again. Their interactive exhibits we're one of our favourites. We tried out what it would be like to steer the teams foiling catamaran in their game ‘stable flight’. We would like to challenge the Land Rover team to try to park a Beneteau 361 in Fiskarado harbour in August!
The main stage was just a stone’s throw from our stand. It was jam packed with interesting talks throughout the weekend. Charlie (London Office's resident weatherman) loved the ‘Reading the Weather’ talk! These tips could come in handy for those of you heading out to Greece this summer.
If any of you are setting sail on your first sailing adventure with us this year, the ‘Sailing Basics’ talk would of be a good place to start!
New to yacht sailing?
If you’re thinking of making the jump from dinghy sailing to yacht sailing, a flotilla is a really gentle way to do that. We have smaller yachts which are perfect for couples and families. What better way to give it a go than in the stunning Greek Islands?
We have put together the main similarities and differences between dinghy and yacht sailing for you:
|The wind works exactly the same!||You will only get wet when you decide to take a dip off the back of the boat. No capsizing here!|
|Sails and steering are the same no matter the size of the boat||Yachts are a little more spacious than dinghies|
|You will still be sailing in beautiful surroundings - it might be a bit warmer than you're used to||On a yacht you can sail longer passages and explore further afield|
Taking the next step...
As a dinghy sailor, you have all the necessary experience to take one of our yachts out on a flotilla. Any of our Ionian flotillas are a perfect introduction into sailing on bigger boats. The distances that you travel during the day are fairly short so you have plenty of time to explore the area and take advantage of the afternoon breezes. Your lead crew will be on hand 24/7 to help you as much or as little as you need. They will give you a full briefing when you arrive on the workings of the yacht and will talk you through every aspect of your holiday.
The great thing about a flotilla holiday is you can tailor it to suit your needs. Some people enjoy spending a lazy lunchtime in a bay swimming and snorkelling, before mooring up in a beautiful Greek village for an evening of good food and cold beer. While others will spend their days chasing the wind trying to get the most out of every inch of their sail! However you want to spend your holiday, we will make sure you visit some breath-taking bays, secluded villages and bustling towns. The best that Greece has to offer!
