Ideally nestled between Lefkas Island’s dramatic mountains and gorgeous Vliho Bay the Iris Hotel offers a brilliant base for a week on shore. It is perfectly located to be combined with any one of our One Week Flotilla Holidays.
Of course sumptuous rooms, a great pool and stunning views are all important factors but (as with our sailing holidays) it is the people who really make the Iris Hotel special. From a comforting morning cappuccino to a well-deserved (magnificently cold) Mythos after a day of exploring, owners Christos, Evanthia and team are on hand all day, every day, for anything you might need.
Rave Trip Advisor visitor Reviews aside, the Iris Hotel has a lot to offer couples, families and groups of friends alike. Their stunning pool is just a stone’s throw from our yachts offering you the choice to either sit, back, relax and watch the yachts come and go, or explore Lefkas Island to your hearts content.
The beauty of the Iris’ quiet but central location is the accessibility of a range of things to do in your shore-based week. If you are feeling lazy after an active week on the water simply sit back, relax and take in the views! There aren’t many places in the world you can glance up from your book to see mountains in one direction and sea in the other...we challenge you to tear yourself away.
When you are ready for a little more activity the holiday town of Nidri is just a 15 minute walk away along the waterfront. Nidri plays host to numerous bakeries, cafes, shops and restaurants as well as a brilliant beach with water sports galore.
If you are looking to explore even further afield Lefkas Island offers a plethora of options! You can rent a car, a small motor boat (from the Hotel), embark on a dive course, or take a day trip on a ferry to neighbouring islands.
Should you rent a car, a drive around the island will give you an opportunity to visit the stunning white sandy beaches of Porto Katsiki and Kathisma on the west coast. Lefkas Town itself is a great spot to visit for a day, with its lively Greek atmosphere. Some people head up into the hills for the spectacular views and to visit the mountain villages.
If you are a wind seeker the dinghy sailing and windsurfing Mecca of Vasiliki is definitely worth a visit! Rent dinghies, windsurfers and stand up paddleboards from the beach. If you are feeling really adventurous there is a fabulous kite surfing beach to the north of Lefkas Town. The opportunities are endless...
The hotel itself offers an excellent breakfast, delicious lunch options, snacks and drinks throughout the day. If you are lucky enough to be there at the weekend or when a flotilla comes to visit you will be treated to Christos’ delicious barbecue, along with Evanthia’s traditional Greek accompaniments. An opportunity not to be missed!
When you fancy exploring elsewhere Elena’s Taverna on the other side of Vliho Bay is our favourite spot. Enjoy delicious, traditional Greek delicacies, mere feet from the water. Being on the eastern side of the bay this is also a terrific spot for sunset. In Nidri Town, Kalamia No Menu restaurant offers a unique dining experience, for when you’ve had enough traditional taverna fayre. Be prepared to be wowed in more ways than one by their eclectic garden décor and deliciously fresh food.
You can combine your week on shore with any of our one week flotilla holidays! Choose from the Ithaka flotilla that starts and finishes at the Iris Hotel, the Lefkas or Kefalonia Flotilla that starts and finishes in nearby Sivota or if you are looking to explore the north Ionian the Paxos Flotilla begins up in our northern base at Plataria. It is entirely up to you whether you prefer to do your week sailing before or after your week of relaxation...take your pick!
