The highlights of the Ionian Islands

The Whole Ionian is our flagship flotilla holiday and one we are very proud to offer. The flotilla spends two weeks meandering through the Ionian Islands from Corfu to Kefalonia and all those in between. This route is perfect for your first or second flotilla or for those who simply want to return and reminisce.

Why choose the Whole Ionian?

There are swim stops en route nearly every day and after three or four days you will feel like you have been there forever. Each island and town has its own unique and colourful character. Islands vary from spectacular rocky cliffs and caves, to rolling hills covered in olive groves. Everywhere you visit has sheltered bays, welcoming village harbours, and great food.

What's the sailing like?

Most sailing days are only 12-15 miles between stops with one or two longer days of 20 miles or so for sailing enthusiasts!

Typical Itinerary & Highlights

We currently have 2 itineraries available.   Select Itinerary:

Day 1, Flotilla starts in Plateria

Travelling from North to South you begin at the village of Plataria on the Greek Mainland. Here you will be met by our crew who will show you to your boat. After a quick look round it is time to sit down and relax at Olga's taverna, with a cold beer and bite to eat.

From Plataria you will wend your way south via the delightful villages of Lakka and Giaos on Paxos Island. A highlight of the trip is a lunchtime stop (or two) in Emerald Bay on Anti-Paxos Island. Another popular stop in Mongonisi at the Southern tip of Paxos where you can Greek dance the night away...

  • Lakka Bay, Paxos Island, Sailing in the Ionian Paxos
  • Hibiscus in Lakka Lakka
  • Drinks at Mongonisi Mongonisi
  • Sunset at Plataria Plataria

Days 2 - 5, North Ionian Highlights

A mainland stop in the Greek Town of Parga should not be missed, with its long sandy beach, buzzing promenade and the unbeatable choice of evening entertainment.  This is also the home to one of our Shore to Sail options, the Salvator Spa Hotel. As the flotilla heads south, you may be able to enjoy a glorious sunset in the small harbour of Ligia, or a night at anchor in Two Rock Bay.

Historic Vonitsa inside the Gulf of Amvrakia may also be included on this route.

  • Parga Town Bay Parga
  • Valtos Beach from the citadel Valtos Beach
  • Ligia North Ligia

Days 6 - 7, Through the Lefkas Canal

Lefkas town also awaits with its marvellous Greek atmosphere. An evening cappuccino in the square is the perfect way to wind down after a long day. An alternative option to the town quay is an optional stay in Lefkas marina with impressive showers and a pool in which you can cool off (worth it if you don’t mind forking out – this is the only marina on the trip).

A swim stop at Goat Bay is highly recommended on your way south, along with a stop at the Iris Hotel in tranquil Vliho bay where you can relax by the pool and enjoy the unrivalled hospitality of owners Christos and Evanthia.

  • The Iris Hotel at Night Time Iris Hotel
  • Lefkas Town Bridge by Alex Allan Lefkas Town
  • 331 Sailing in Goat Bay 2 Goat Bay

Days 8 - 13, South Ionian Highlights

In the South Ionian you will visit a few of our old favourites as well as quieter spots (which we love as they remind us of what flotillas used to be like 30 years ago)!

Kastus and Kalamos are two such places that make you feel as if you have stepped back in time. The quaint harbours, with just a couple of tavernas and crystal clear waters make the absence of modern amenities well worth it!

The larger islands of Kefalonia and Ithaca are also on the agenda – and the channel between the two islands offers terrific afternoon breezes for those seeking a little extra wind.

  • Vliho Bay, Nidri, Lefkas Nidri
  • Kioni View Ithaka Island
  • Boat in Bay on Kefalonia Kefalonia
  • Beneteau 361 White Cliffs Meganisi Meganisi Island
  • Anchored off the rocks at Kioni Kioni
  • An evening in Fiskardo Fiskardo
  • George's Bar Georges

Days 14 - 15, Finishing in Sivota

Your final night stop will be at the charming village of Sivota which nestles in a sheltered natural inlet at the southern end of Lefkas Island.

The lead crew will arrange a final night dinner where you can enjoy the company of your fellow sailors one final time before heading home!

  • Sivota, Lefkas flowers Sivota

Days 1 - 3, Join the flotilla in Sivota

After arriving at Preveza a short transfer through the hills of Lefkas Island will bring you to our southern base at Sivota. Here you will be met by our crew who will introduce you to your boat and show you around. Then it is time to sit back and relax with a cold drink and sample some of the best food the Ionian Islands has to offer in one of the many quayside tavernas.

The larger islands of Kefalonia and Ithaca are likely to be on the agenda for the first few days – and the channel between the two islands offers terrific afternoon breezes for those seeking a little extra wind.

  • Boat in Bay on Kefalonia Kefalonia
  • An evening in Fiskardo Fiskardo
  • Euphemia Bay, Kefalonia Agia Euphemia
  • Sivota, Lefkas flowers Sivota

The second to last night is often spent in the picturesque village of Mourtos. Just 12 miles South of Plataria this spot offers amazing sunsets and stunning swim stops in the surrounding archipelago of islands.

Combine a one week flotilla sailing holiday with another week relaxing ashore.

These holidays will appeal to those who enjoy sailing but have family or friends who are not quite so enthusiastic about sailing - a compromise can now be made!

Most people opt for a week of sailing followed by a week of winding down on shore. However it is entirely up to you to do what you want to do (and when!)

Choose from studios or apartments beside the sea at the Iris Hotel, Stena, near Nidri, or opt for one of our carefully selected boutique hotels. The San Nicolas Resort Hotel is now available in nearby Roudha Bay, or really pamper yourself at the Salvator Villas and Spa Hotel in Parga, which also has a selection of two-bedroom villas with private pools.
