Skiathos Island is the nearest of the Sporades group to the mainland. It is a popular holiday destination with mainland Greek people and is blessed with lots of sandy beaches all around the island and the nearby islets. It is the only island with an airport.
It is a popular area with sailors because of the ideal Meltemi wind which sweeps in from the north east throughout the summer. This creates an excellent mix of sailing conditions with great wind and calm waters to the south of the island.
