Astros is a pretty fishing town set at the bottom of a castle on a hill. Or if you are approaching from Navplion, Astrous looks like a small island just off the mainland. The harbour is easily spotted by the castle set high on the hill. There can be quite a bit of south east swell on the approach, so it is often best to leave sorting out fenders and lines until you get into the harbour.
Moor stern or bows-to on the quay, and in peak season a few boats may have to be rafted off from the quay.
There are quite a few tavernas and restaurants to choose from in Astrous.
It is possible to get most supplies - head towards the main road that runs parallel to the beach where you will find mini markets, green grocers, a bakery, pharmacy and a bank.
A walk that is well worth doing is up to the castle. You can follow the road winding up the hill behind Remezzo, which is about a 20 minute walk. Take your camera there are some great views from the top. Or alternatively visit the beach across from the harbour for a ‘quick dip’, or enjoy a cool refreshing beverage at one of the bars along the beach!
Water is available on the quay from a small old local man who doesn’t speak a word of English!
