RYA Coastal Skipper One Week Sail
This course is aimed at Day Skippers looking to progress to the next level. It is an advanced course, and the next step towards full RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore. The course focuses on extended passage making, by day or night and involving watch keeping systems. The aim will be on developing your confidence and leadership and will include handling in confined spaces, complex navigation, pilotage and sailing in heavy weather. You will be assessed throughout the week by your instructor.
Before taking the RYA Coastal you will need to have a valid First Aid certificate and VHF operator’s license. The Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory exam is also a prerequisite. This is a five day intensive course concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology.
Pre-Course Experience Requirements:
A minimum of 15 days aboard, with 300 nautical miles logged, including 2 days as skipper, with 8 night hours. Participants must be at least 17 years of age.
Yachtmaster Coastal is £820 plus flights & transfer.
RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Preparation
RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore is the peak of the RYA scheme and the ultimate aim of all serious yachtsmen and women. It is a highly respected qualification worldwide and can be commercially endorsed.
Early in the week your instructor will give you an honest appraisal of your strengths and weaknesses. There is no official course for Yachtmaster prep, consequently the course is tailored to you. The emphasis will be on close quarter manoeuvring under sail and power, advanced navigation, IRPCS and skippering techniques.
Before taking the course you will need to have a valid First Aid certificate and VHF operator’s license. The Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory exam is also a prerequisite. This is a five day intensive course concentrating on advanced navigation and meteorology.
The suggested minimum sea-time is 2,500 miles, 50 days onboard, 5 days acting as skipper for at least 60 miles.

A minimum of 50 days aboard, with 2500 nautical miles logged, including 5 days as skipper, with 8 night hours. Participants must be at least 17 years of age.
Yachtmaster Offshore is £820 plus flights & transfer.
RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Exam & Certificate of Competence
This is a separate assessment by an independent examiner from the RYA, on behalf of the MCA. The assessment usually runs over 2 days. If successful, both Coastal and Offshore Yachtmaster can be commercially endorsed for those wishing to work at sea. This involves taking an official medical examination and a sea survival course.
Coastal Certificate of Competence Assessment
The suggested minimum sea-time 30 days, 2 days as skipper, 800 miles, 12 night hours. If you hold a Yachtmaster Coastal Skipper Practical Course Completion Certificate the sea-time requirement is reduced to 20 days, 2 days as skipper, 400 miles and 12 night hours.
Offshore Certificate of Competence Assessment
The suggested minimum sea-time is 2500 miles, 50 days onboard, 5 days acting as skipper over 60 miles.
Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence is an additional £325
Accommodation
We teach aboard our Dufour 36 yachts and unlike our flotilla holidays, you will be purchasing a berth, and will be sharing with fellow students. On the yachts there are 3 double cabins and a saloon berth. We have a range of requirements and can cater for two to five people per yacht. The maximum instructor to student ratio is 5:1, and due consideration will be taken when assigning bunks.
All breakfasts and lunches are included in the cost of the course, as well as two evening meals cooked on board. Greece is blessed with an abundance of tavernas, and there will be lots of opportunities to eat on-shore. If you have any special dietary requirements just let us know. One bath sized towel per person, all bed linen, pillows and duvets are included. There’s no need to bring a sleeping bag along. There is a shower on board, and we will be stopping in ports that have showers and facilities ashore.
